Do you like word games and crosswords? Check out Word Fever on the Google Play Store (app review)

I’m not a big gamer these days, but I still enjoy games every now and then and word games are especially fun for me. Words with friends is an app that I have on all smartphones because I can play it at my leisure while playing crossword in the newspaper once a week. Endless runners, connection points, and tower defense apps aren’t the kind of games I’m looking for for fun, although I know they’re hugely popular. Word games are just more in my alley these days and my most recent favorite is Word fever of Second gear games.

Configuration and use

As with all other apps, all you have to do is head over to the Google play store, click on download and it will install on your device. Word Fever is 100% free to install and play.

I really appreciate the free apps that don’t bombard you with ads – they’re not only annoying when you accidentally click on them, but they also make the game a lot less fun and ruin the overall look. Word Fever does not have ads and is supported through in-app purchases.

Description of Google Play:

Word Fever is part crossword puzzle, part word search. Use the clues to find out which words are hidden. Answers can relate to nature, food, science, sports, vacations, geography and many other categories.

It starts out very easily but quickly gets difficult. Find the twisted words and slide your finger across the letters – that easy! If you love to play puzzles, charades, text twist, quizzes, and word puzzles, this one is for you.

• Hundreds of puzzles for almost endless fun.
• Simple controls: tap or drag to create words.
• Play in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese or Russian.

In a way the game is like a crossword puzzle because it gives you tricks and then it is also like Boggle where you connect letters that are touching to form the words. This is not only a “how fast can you connect the letters” type game, but it is also a game that gets you thinking a bit more as it behaves like a crossword puzzle with cheats or clues. Each word starts with a letter highlighted in green, then you create the word that makes sense by clicking or dragging on adjacent letters from the starting point.

It’s simple in nature, but it gets complicated pretty quickly. If you’re the type who doesn’t like sitting down and trying to figure out the answers on your own, you can buy tips with in-app purchases. Prices start at 99 cents for 10 indices and go up to $ 19.99 for 220 indices.

I’m definitely not a fan of in-app purchases and prefer to watch the puzzles until I figure them out. It’s a little more rewarding for me that way and it’s a great time killer if I need a break.

What we liked

  • Graphic
  • Difficult puzzles
  • ad-free
  • Combination of Boggle and crossword
  • I can play when I want

Gaming apps are definitely scarce when it comes to adding something new to my device. But Word Fever is a new staple that will provide hours of entertainment while challenging my brain beyond simply connecting as many words as possible in a limited amount of time. It is definitely one of the funniest puzzles that I have played in a long time.
