Best Word Games for iPhone and iPad in 2021

As a writer, I have a deep appreciation for word games. For me and many others, it’s a great way to just relax and use your vast vocabulary without sounding snobby to others. Plus, we might even learn new words while playing! Either way, if you’re a word game fan and looking for new games to play on your iPhone and iPad, you’ve come to the right place.

Alpha bear 2

Alphabear 2 is a fresh and unique word game full of cute and squishy bears. Honestly, what’s not to love here? It is a sequel to the original Alphbear released in 2015, which turned out to be a success.

The goal in Alphabear 2 is to spell words using letters on a puzzle grid. When using letter tiles adjacent to each other, bears appear on the grid. The more letters you use, the bigger the bears get, which earns you more points at the end of the turn. You have to get creative with the words you spell to be successful in this game!

VPN offers: lifetime license for $ 16, monthly plans for $ 1 and more

Alphabear 2 is also packed with wit, charm, and humor with the dialogue for each bear, where they feature a particular word you spell. And there are plenty of bears to collect, each with a unique bonus that can help you rack up some big points!

You will move columns of letters to find new combinations of words to spell, and you must use each letter at least once before moving on to the next puzzle.

The game includes a fair amount of free puzzles, but you’ll want to unlock more through in-app purchases. Each puzzle pack also comes with its own color theme which looks as tasty as it looks.

Turn of fate

Spelltower is considered one of the classic word games, and it comes from the same guy who gave us Typeshift. Think of Spelltower like Tetris, but with words. You’ll want to select adjacent letter tiles to spell the words and clear the tiles, and you’ll want to spell as many words as possible before a column reaches the top. Otherwise, it’s over. The more complex the word, the more points you earn! There are a ton of different game modes available in Spelltower, and each one is just as frantic and challenging as the last, with the possible exception of Zen mode if you just want to relax.

It’s a game that has been out for a long time, but I would consider it a must-have, especially for word game enthusiasts.

Another classic that should be on every word game enthusiast’s device is typography. In Letterpress, two players must capture the board by spelling out words with the letters on the grid. You can use the tiles freely, so they don’t need to be adjacent, but you can’t reuse a word the opponent has spelled. And once all the letters have been captured, the player with the most tiles wins. It’s an intense melee between two people, and you can always see the dictionary definition of a word if you’re ever curious.
