You organize several different words by connecting the puzzle pieces together. It’s simple, fun and sometimes it gets difficult. Players receive the starter pack and two puzzle packs for free. We really appreciate the lack of a subscription price with this one and it’s kid friendly as well. We have no major complaints although some reviews sometimes have a bug.

It’s a good, simple crossword puzzle.

Jumpline 2

Price: Free / $ 2.99

Jumbline 2 is a colorful word search game. It works a lot like Boggle and Scrabble mixed together. You get a set of about seven letters. You mix them up and find different words. It is certainly not a new concept. There are dozens of games like this on Google Play. However, we love the execution of this app. You manually move the squares to form words and then tap on those words to add them to the collection. The game features over 20,000 five, six and seven letter puzzles as well as a few different game modes, achievements, and tablet support. It uses American spellings for the words and is missing a few. The free version of the game has quite a few ads and the premium version is definitely worth getting rid of.

Typography

Price: Free / $ 4.99

Typography is another unique word puzzle game. It’s kind of like a much more intense version of Boggle. You and another player face a grid of five by five letters. Each letter fills with your color as you create words. The game ends when you fill each letter with a color. There are a few rules in there, but it’s actually quite a difficult game. You can play with other people or with one of the four bots. The game also comes with some of the most tame ads we’ve ever seen, Oxford dictionary support, swear words, and even a bunch of stats to keep up with your game. The user interface is super simple, but the game is surprisingly engaging. We definitely recommend this one. It is definitely one of the best free word games.

Typeshift

Price: Free / Up to $ 5.99

Typeshift is another interesting variation of a classic type of game. You get rows of letters. You move each row up and down until a word forms. The puzzle continues until the player lights each tile. The early stages are pretty straightforward and you shouldn’t have any issues with them. However, the longer the game lasts, the more complex each puzzle becomes. The user interface isn’t going to win any awards, but the controls are solid. There is a hint system and you get hints by watching advertisements. However, sometimes this feature does not work quite well. You also get puzzles with the standard game mode. It is a simple and enjoyable game.

Words

Price: Free (with ads)

Words is a classic word search game. You get a grid of letters and you find words. Letters must share one side (diagonal, horizontal or vertical) with the next letter as well as the previous one. Each new word has its own color so you can see where you were before. The game ends when the player finds all the given words. Some other features include two game modes, multiple difficulty levels, support for multiple languages, and an online dictionary in case you need it. The game is a bit buggy from time to time on some devices, but most of the reviews were positive. This one is one of the best free word games.

Word landscapes

Price: Free to play

Wordscapes is kind of a mix of Boggle and crossword puzzles. Players get a mix of letters at the bottom of the screen and a crossword style layout at the top. You drag letters to form words that fill the crossword section. The goal is to find all the words that match rather than finding every word. The game includes over 5,000 puzzles (many with themes), simple mechanics, and a few different game modes. The game features some rather obnoxious advertisements and that makes it less friendly for free players. Otherwise, the experience is not bad at all.

Words With Friends 2 and other Zynga games

Price: Free to play

Words With Friends 2 is Zynga’s most popular word game. It basically plays like Scrabble. You and another player receive letters. You place them on a board to generate points. The player with the most points wins the game. This is a full online multiplayer experience, but you can play it solo if you want. The game itself is perfectly fine and looks good. You can remove the ads, but it costs $ 10 per 30 days and we think it’s a bit awful. The freemium aspects of it aren’t too rewarding either. Other than that, he’s a winner. Zynga also has Crossword With Friends, Boggle With Friends, and Draw Something. All three are great freemium word games. You can also find an official Scrabble game on Google Play, but this one is better.

Word search by Melimots

Price: Free (with ads)

Word Search by Melimots is just a simple and basic word search game. We thought that with all of these weird hybrids, a good, simple free word search game would be a nice addition. He plays as you might expect. Each word has its own highlight color and you can customize the font size in case you want it bigger or smaller. The game also keeps track of your highest scores if you want to see them later. Even the ads aren’t too bad. The game has occasional crashes and occasional bugs. However, it’s hard to complain too much about a free game.
